Nothing like Italian doors !

Doors?

Who would have thought that I would have such a sudden interest? Infatuation really, in Italian doors.

Honestly, most are… fucking amazing. Curse word used for emotional effect and support.

As David and I traveled through Italy we found so many amazing and wonderful doors. It was hard to decide which ones to take and share on our Facebook Blog Page. Which brings me to my next book idea. 13 doors. 13 short stories. All about 20-25 pages with each door as the inspiration behind it. Already I’m two doors or stories in. By the way. The full set of doors will be available soon.

To be honest, I didn’t think that I was a short story kind of writer. My BFF Patty encouraged me to give it a try and I’m now enjoying it. I typically like the details and the back story behind a full novel. With short stories, as you know, you have to be much more brief and offer your necessary information up front and quickly.

Having already completed four short stories already I thought that I would be okay with this. However, writing 13 stories does seem a bit overwhelming. Not to worry – I’m still sane and not overwhelmed yet.

After The Rain - A Short Story

It had stopped so abruptly, almost as quickly as it started.

A game of Scrabble, a glass of wine, candlelight, the sound of the wind blowing and the rain on the roof, helps to make for a wonderfully romantic night for Grant and Perry. Until the thunder crashes and then all hell breaks loose. Putting more of a strain on this home than the protective windows can take. After the rain is a short story that teeters the diversity of relationships in the gay community as well as the many challenges for any couple. It stems from a man that has a simple dream for his life and the need to find that one man to help him live it.

The Pebble - Short Story

“I’m moving out.” Words that no one wants to hear
, yet words that could easily change your life for the better. Emma found herself and someone new to love all in those words. The Pebble – brings new life to a young girl who had lost herself in someone else. With the help of our sanctuary and a chance meeting, she was able to change her life completely. The Pebble starts out as a breakup but ends as the beginning of a great love story.

The Gate - Short Story

Henry and Marianne have worked all their lives, raised a family and thought that they were transitioning into a wonderful retirement. Life plays with us, changes and makes decisions for us that we're not ready for. The Gate is a love story that transcends the everyday life and offers hope to the rest of us that life and love will grow and last forever.

Sleep Tight - A Short Story

There are so many things in this world that are difficult to handle. Moving, losing a job, divorce, losing a child and of course, losing a parent. Booker works through the confrontation of losing his parents and the challenges of dealing with his siblings. Thankfully he has Step to help guide and walk through the experience with him. What should have been an experience that tested their relationship only brought them closer together. ‘Sleep tight’ will touch your heartstrings as well as make your sexual sensations surge. Thank you to my mother for all the wonderful memories and at the very least, the title.

The first two stories are interesting and done fairly quickly. Which means that I’m motivated. The hope is to get them done by the end of summer and advertised in the September issue of The Scribe Magazine. If you’re still living under that rock and are totally unaware. The Scribe Magazine is a bi-monthly product of Breaking Rules Publishing. A platform for poets and those that write short stories.
We offer advertisement for all authors, both inside and out of the BRP inventory. Inside you'll find marketing tips to help sell your book. Writing advice as well as hints for blogging, starting or writing a journal, and much more.

Moving forward, and just to add a little more craziness to the pot. I am also working on Submission as well as Wilderness, a manuscript that I started base on a photo I saw with a cabin in the woods. Photo below.

The last bit of shameless promotion is November 17th… Going Home. It is out and ready for order - As many of you know, I like to write about those little stories that people have hidden away and the circumstances that change their lives, causing them to trade one reality for another. I hope that you enjoy the stories that I have found in the reaches of my mind and heart.

For every book sold - $5 will be donated to the Riverfront Theater in Milford DE. In Bob Connelly's name.

The cover photo was taken by Bob Connelly.

Blurb –

One date connects two couples. Little did they know that it wasn't just a date. It was love, compassion, and friendship that joined them together.

It's November 17, 1962, as Landon prepares to marry Elizabeth, the woman created just for him. Their life together travels many twists and turns as most couples do. Even with the strong Italian pull the couple finally makes Milford, DE their home.

It's November 17, 2009, as Henry prepares to marry Sarah, the woman he thought was created just for him. Little did he know that while on a trip to Florence, Italy, he would find himself alone, hung-over and in territory very unfamiliar to him. Secrets happen, secrets are kept, secrets are exposed and no one wins.

November 17th... Going Home is a story of love, heartbreak and a reality that friendship, love, and compassion will always win over the personal crimes of a scorned woman. It has true to life characters that are building relationships, having sex, traveling and living their lives the best way they can in the face of unfortunate circumstances.

Thank you for stopping by.
